The death of a loved one can cause a lot of pain for both family and friends. It is natural to miss the person you love. But how can you overcome the agony of such separation? Where to find the strength to continue your own journey in life? After all, death does not determine the end of everything!
Yes, you read that right. To explain this point we resort to the words of the President-Preacher of the Religion of Universal Love,1 José de Paiva Netto:
“Those we love never die, even if they are already in the Spiritual World. Many remain invisible by our side, helping us; others may be in need of our prayers. Let us pray for them, so that when our time comes someone will pray for us, and let us thank God for being the God of the living.” (Paiva Netto, in his book Sagradas Diretrizes Espirituais da Religião de Deus, do Cristo e do Espírito Santo [Sacred Spiritual Guidelines of the Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit], volume I, in the chapter “Death Does Not Exist in Any Part of the Universe.”)
The life after the death
This is the first great comfort for our Souls—to know that our loved one is still alive, that he/she did not cease to exist after death. This was one of the major lessons that Jesus left us when He said in His Gospel according to Mark 12:27 that
"God is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living.”
Jesus also told the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well that “God is Spirit” (The Gospel according to John 4:24), and so are we all—Eternal Spirits—since we were created in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). Therefore, life continues even after the phenomenon of death—the end of the physical body—because our spiritual life never ceases to exist, and what’s more, no one is left abandoned, either on Earth or in Heaven.
It is true that we can no longer see and hear the beloved person as we used to do, but they continue to live in their spiritual body. And it is possible to feel them in our hearts, and at the right time we may have their presence among us or even meet them in our dreams, for example.

Overcoming pain
At this moment, if you are suffering from the death of someone you love, we would like to invite you to take a moment and watch this video of the Ecumenical Lord's Prayer that Jesus has taught us. It will surely do you a lot of good!
Let us say it together:
By understanding these teachings, the pain of separation and absence of those we love will be relieved over time, even if it is not easy. It is important to remember that each one has their own time.
However, if we wish to move on—always praying for the Eternal Spirit of the one who has left us and sending them our best energies—sadness and anguish will give rise to new feelings such as tranquility and Peace.
The loved one will always have an important place in our life and will never be forgotten.
Pain is temporary, while the certainty of eternal life will always be a reason for strength and courage for overcoming suffering.
Pray for your loved ones
Being aware of this spiritual bond, it is important that we pray for those who passed away, sending peaceful and the best vibrations from our hearts through good thoughts, which will contribute a lot to the endless journey of this loved one.
Regarding the power of Prayer, Paiva Netto transcribed in his book Jesus, o Profeta Divino [Jesus, the Divine Prophet] in the subtitle “Tears Must Be Spared,” the following words of Dr. Bezerra de Menezes (Spirit), the coordinator in the Spiritual World of the World Revolution of the Spirits of Light, in the Fourth Revelation, the Religion of the Third Millennium:
“Most noble reincarnated friends, do not be mournful, do not shed unnecessary tears, which must be spared, because the Spirits who have left just want to evolve in Peace.
“By the strength of edifying deeds, switch on the true lights, which are like powerful lighthouses that rise from earthly spheres to Heaven and to those who are already shining in the Spiritual World. This is what we ask of you. We understand the feeling of missing someone. But instead of weeping, do good deeds!
“The efforts of the Spirits in the service of Goodness on Earth is a point of victory in the Spiritual Realms.
“Therefore, may we do our part, not by weeping for them, but by praying for their happiness, and the meeting of lives will naturally occur on the prosperous and radiant day of the fraternal union between the two Humanities—of Heaven and of the Earth—that love one another.”
