Guardian Angel: 3 Things you Need to Know About Yours
The Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit1 teaches us that everyone has at least one Guardian Angel. This Spirit of Light, which has many different names depending on the belief, is a true friend who guides, protects, and helps human beings spiritually in several ways.

They are strong spirits, as the President-Preacher of the Religion of the Third Millennium, José de Paiva Netto, explains in his book Diretrizes Espirituais da Religião de Deus, do Cristo e do Espírito Santo [Spiritual Guidelines of the Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit], volume 2, page 96:
“Unlike the innocent figure of a winged child playing a harp, an Angel is a Spirit of Light who, being on the path to their evolution until they become one with the Heavenly Father, has already reached an extremely high spiritual stage, and in the next step will be raised to the level of Archangel. Such entities, which are very highly developed (as one day all Spirits will be, including those that today are reincarnated on Earth as human beings) are not in the slightest bit fragile. On the contrary, in many Biblical passages they appear as the possessors of great powers over the destiny of people and undertaking punitive tasks against those who break the Divine Laws. The Apocalypse of Jesus is full of such examples.”
Given this situation, we present from an ecumenical point of view three key things you need to know about your Guardian Angel. They will be presented on the belief of the immortality of our soul and of the process of successive lives in which we find ourselves: Reincarnation.

1. How was our Guardian Angel chosen to protect us?
The Religion of Universal Love explains that every time we reincarnate, our life on Earth carries a spiritual purpose2, in which we undergo a learning process.
So we can fully fulfill this purpose, Divine mercy allows each one of us to plan our own existence (in the spiritual world) before reincarnating and to make commitments to other spirits who will help us on our journey.
In specific moments in our lives these evolved Spirits start exercising the role of Guardian Angels. They will always be spirits who are fond of us or have a certain connection to us. So they were not chosen at random by God.
On the contrary, they are close to us, perhaps from other lives, and on this journey of ours they are committed to help us, with the approval of the Heavenly Father.

2. How does our Guardian Angel communicate with us?
Communication takes place in many ways and is present in the everyday lives of people, much more than one might imagine. For the Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit, the most effective and straightforward way is through intuition, in which we receive from our Guardian Angel the spiritual knowledge we need.
“In each one of us Divine Intuition is the very Reason of the Creator. That is why, when we actually cultivate it, the Lord of the Future advises us beforehand about coming facts, whether small or large,” as Paiva Netto teaches.
We may, however, not easily understand the message the Guardian Angel wants to pass on to us, perhaps because of a lack of certain habits that link us to them. So how can we improve this communication?
We need to raise our thoughts perfectly to the Heavens, in other words, to the values and sentiments that are found in these superior regions, like Peace, Generosity, Love, Joy, and Mercy.
This can be done in many ways, but mainly by way of a behavior that calms our Soul, through prayer and meditation, as well as good reading, conversation, and music that promote Solidarity, Respect, and Fraternity in our daily relations.
In this way, we shall be linked to those who find themselves in the Higher Spiritual World, and so we shall be able to understand the messages that the Guardian Angels wish to pass on to us.
But the opposite also happens. When human beings are full of bitterness, anger, envy, selfishness, and discouragement, their minds remain troubled. Even if their Protecting Angel tries to warn or comfort them, they will be unable to pick up the message because they will not be on the same wavelength.
Hence the warning Jesus gave us in His Gospel according to Matthew 16:19, and which was so necessary:
“Whatever you bind on Earth, shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth shall be loosed in Heaven.”
3. Can our Guardian Angel leave our side?
We cannot attribute human failings or habits to the Guardian Angel. He is an evolved spirit, aware of his role of looking after and protecting us. This being so, he will never abandon us. Once he has assumed his commitment in the Higher Spiritual World, he will be with us for as long as he has been assigned to, while always respecting the free will, privacy, and time of evolution of each one.
And as we mentioned above, if our thoughts are not raised spiritually, he will not be able to fully perform his role, not because he does not want to, but because we do not create the conditions necessary for this to happen.
In his book Conversando com o seu Anjo da Guarda – A Agenda Espiritual [Talking to your Guardian Angel – The Spiritual Agenda], page 19, by Dr. Bezerra de Menezes (Coordinator in the Spiritual World of the World Revolution of the Spirits of Light), psychographed by Chico Periotto, we find an important message from Brother Flexa Dourada (Spirit):
"Let’s not forget to ask for the help of the Guardian Angels. Let’s never stop doing so! When we forget these Heavenly Protectors, they cannot help us, because the necessary harmony with the Higher World has not been established. So they become mere companions, which is very sad both for them and for you. Let’s always ask for the protection of the Guardian Angels and they will make themselves felt through intuition, the heavenly inspiration, in private or in public."
