A lot is said about the consequences of smoking for the health of the body. According to a 2019 report from the World Health Organization (WHO), the tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced and kills half of those who smoke.
Tobacco is responsible for the death of over 8 million people a year. More than 7 million of those numbers are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers—children, young people, and adults—being exposed to second-hand smoke, as reported by the WHO.
Despite being alarming, these figures are only the tip of the iceberg, as there are implications that go far beyond what the eye can see. These are the consequences that mark the spiritual body of all of us, our spirit.
Therefore, in defense of the lives of Human Beings and their Eternal Spirits, it is extremely important to alert everyone regarding the quality of choices made in the present to understand the gravity of the consequences that can occur, even after death. Smoking tobacco brings serious spiritual consequences.
The spiritual consequences of smoking
The Religion of God, of the Christ, and of the Holy Spirit understands that by becoming incarnate, we receive from God, the Heavenly Father, a body as clothing for the spirit. If we expose our organisms to toxic substances, such as tobacco and other drugs, whether legal or illegal, the physical and spiritual body will certainly react to this with serious diseases.
Even with the passing of time and the death of our physical body, the spirit will continue to seek its regeneration, searching for its original state of equilibrium.
Besides this, once incarnate, the health of the Soul must be preserved to the maximum as should that of the physical body, in a balanced manner, so that time and opportunities may be used well by every one.
If we compromise our physical health as a result of bad habits deliberately cultivated, such as nicotine addiction, the individual is considered, from both the spiritual and human points of view, in the medium and long-terms, to be committing suicide, cutting short his life and throwing away what has been given to him by God for his spiritual evolution.
And, by choosing to do this, suffering from remorse and guilt will never end. One of the great mistakes made by those who continue with harmful addictions to the spirit is the illusion that death is a guaranteed escape. After death, not only life but the pain will continue stronger and more real than one could possibly imagine.

Addiction beyond death
Another important factor to be considered is the constant interaction that exists between spirits incarnated on Earth and discarnate spirits in the spiritual world. Although living in different dimensions, there is a constant dialogue and connection through the quality of the thoughts, feelings, and habits.
As an individual becomes involved in risky behavior, by being a substance abuser, for example, he is liable to be approached by sprits still using these substances, since passing through death does not cancel out the good or bad things we have done in the material world.
Our addictions can also follow us into the spiritual world. The renewal of each of us comes from perseverance and good attitudes. Once we are linked by means of this prejudicial habit, the spirits start following us hoping to sustain their own past habits, thus causing serious harm to incarnate beings, who rarely perceive these negative influences.
The activist of the World Revolution of the Spirits of Light, Dr. Bezerra de Menezes, in a message addressed to parents2, psychographed by the Legionnaire medium Chico Periotto, warns us as follows:
"Hate cigarettes or any other kind of addiction that causes the destruction of your physical bodies. Advise those who participate in your lives (and who may suffer from these evils) to give up their bad habits, because the quantity and quality of inferior spirits that approach us when we are linked to people or situations trapped by such a perilous vibration is terrible. You cannot imagine just how harmful this is!"
The understanding of this spiritual reality is ancient. Christ himself in his Gospel calls our attention to the spiritual dialogue between the two worlds (Earth and Heaven):
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself (obsessive spirits), and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. (...)” (The Gospel of Jesus according to Matthew 12: 43 to 45).
We must take care of our home. Our house is, above all, the home of our feelings and thoughts, our intimate self. The presence and influence of these spirits, still hooked on human vices, is established also according to the physical and spiritual strength we devote to our health.
And there are many ways of preserving our intimate self and keeping it healthy. In the Book of Revelations, the Apocalypse of Jesus, the Divine Friend of Mankind extends to us an invitation in order to offer the spiritual nourishment we need:
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” (The Apocalypse of the Christ according to John 3:20).
This friendship shows that the celestial support exists for all those ready to renew their habits and redeem their ways. Let us listen to Him who appears to our spirit offering us for eternity the true companionship we need. This is how the Religion of Universal Love cries out:
“Whoever trusts Jesus does not waste time, because He is the Great Friend who never abandons a friend in the middle of the way.”
